Planet Yang and James Yang Illustration are now the same address. Why Planet Yang? This new site will provide a richer source of information about various illustrations, projects, and news.
The Planet Yang book is a 32 page book featuring a variety of projects and illustrations. My agent, David Goldman, has been wanting me to do a book like this for some time.
Ironically, I couldn’t figure out the book until starting Planet Yang. Afterwards, everything fell into place.
If you would like to buy Planet Yang, please visit here.
Cover done for Environment Yale magazine in 2007. The editor, David DeFusco, sent a rough scribble of a globe face with water being squeezed from the head.
Sometimes it is hard to see the idea through someone else’s scribble. Occasionally, it becomes more difficult to come up with a solution.
Not this time.
The Environment Yale cover is one of my favorite covers.

Lampshade design for “Enlighten”, an art lamp exhibit in Los Angeles on November 21st. This exhibit will help support arts education. Tornado Design is the curator. The design is based on illustrations called the Robot Bunny series.
The lamp is available for purchase and part of the proceeds go to Inner City Arts based in LA.
Video exploring the lives of illustrators who live the global life. Director Greg Nemec and I did this for the ICON Conference in New York City. Interviews with Hanoch Piven, Michael Bartalos, Fernanda Cohen, Nate Williams, Monika Aichele, Ingo Fast, and Laurie Rosenwald.
This was a cover and fold-out for the Directory of Illustration 2009. Dave Plunkert of Spur Design is the designer. When I first turned it in, it had a more complex background. Dave liked the art, but I asked if there was anything he would change.
He said no.
I asked again if he was sure.
After working with the type, he suggested a black background.
David is a very smart guy.
p.s. This is the first post on Planet Yang. Hopefully this will be the first of many.
